Every trailer manufacturer reaches a point where demand outgrows available production space. For Load Trail, that moment came in the mid-2010s, and the answer was a brand-new, purpose-built manufacturing facility in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
On April 3, 2018, Load Trail officially broke ground on its newest manufacturing facility in Sulphur Springs’ Heritage Business Park off Loop 301. Joined by community leaders, employees, and local supporters, the groundbreaking marked another major milestone in the company’s continued growth. The facility would become one of the first major manufacturing projects in the business park, helping establish the area’s momentum as a growing manufacturing hub.
What We’re Building
The scale of this expansion reflects Load Trail’s long-term commitment to growth. The new facility is designed as a 160,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, representing approximately $7.8 million in construction costs and built to eventually house nearly $10 million in production equipment. Load Trail is financing the project through local banks without seeking a tax abatement, choosing to invest in the company’s future on its own terms.
This isn’t a standard metal building. The facility features additional structural steel throughout and assembly lines designed for highly mechanized production. Even the foundation includes nine-foot anchor pins engineered to support conveyor systems beneath key manufacturing equipment. Every aspect of the building is purpose-built to maximize production efficiency.
Built for Larger Trailers
While Load Trail’s other manufacturing facilities support a wide range of trailer models, the Sulphur Springs plant is specifically designed to build larger trailers, including 53-foot models and flatbeds. This specialized focus allows the facility’s layout, equipment, and production flow to be optimized for large-trailer manufacturing rather than trying to accommodate every product line under one roof.
Investing in Sulphur Springs
Once fully operational, the facility is expected to employ approximately 150 people, with room to add a second shift as production continues to grow. For Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, this investment brings new manufacturing jobs and strengthens the region’s growing industrial presence alongside companies such as Dobyns Rods and JB Weld, which are also investing in the area.
For Load Trail, this expansion represents more than additional production capacity. It demonstrates that a family-owned trailer manufacturer from Sumner, Texas, can continue to grow while maintaining the quality, craftsmanship, and commitment to Northeast Texas that have defined the company from the beginning.
